Challenge

Challenge The 2.14 ha site required structural design of 54 individual retaining wall segments across steeply varying ground levels, with retained heights up to 4.2 m. Underground services further constrained pier depths across portions of the site.

Solution

Reinforced masonry blockwork walls were detailed with 190–290 mm blocks, N32 concrete footings, and subsoil AG drainage. All walls were designed to AS4678-2002 Classification A1 for a 60-year design life, with a 5 kPa surcharge at 600 mm clearance and pier depths extended below service inverts where required.

Key Highlights

  • 54 wall segments across two structural systems.
  • Wall heights up to approximately 4.2m.
  • N40 precast sleeper panels with reinforcement meeting AS4678-2002.
  • Pier depths individually designed with embedment's extended past service inverts.
