Challenge

Analyse a Keystone segmental retaining wall system with a max height of 3.8 m , while accommodating high live and dead loads on the the wall face, silty clay foundation conditions, and the need for global stability in an area with limited geotechnical data.

Solution

We performed detailed global stability analysis by modeling multiple surcharge and embedment scenarios and trimmed the embedment depth from 1.33 m to 1.0 m. Less excavation, lower cost, same safety margin (FOS) > 1.5.

Key Highlights

  • Keystone Compac II wall, 249 m² total area, 3.8 m max height
  • Live (20 kPa) and dead (5 kPa) loads accounted for with 0.6 m offset
  • Global stability assessment confirmed FOS > 1.5
  • GX60/30 and GX 80/40 geogrids used with optimized 1.0 m embedment for cost efficiency
