Challenge

Design a Keystone segmental retaining wall system with a max height of 3.8 m in an industrial estate, while accommodating high live and dead loads offset from the wall face, silty clay foundation conditions, and the need for global stability in an area with limited geotechnical data.

Solution

Konceptual performed detailed global stability analysis of the retaining structure (max scenario height: 3.8 m), modeling multiple surcharge and embedment scenarios. By refining geotechnical inputs and optimizing embedment depth (reduced from 1.33 m to 1.0 m), we ensured safety with a factor of safety (FOS) > 1.5, while improving constructability and reducing costs.

Key Highlights

  • Keystone Compac II wall, 249 m² total area, 3.8 m max height
  • Live (20 kPa) and dead (5 kPa) loads accounted for with 0.6 m offset
  • Global stability assessment confirmed FOS > 1.25
  • GX60/30 and GX 80/40 geogrids used with optimized 1.0 m embedment for cost efficiency
