Challenge

Two critical weir structures — Sharpes Weir (Ellis Lane) and Camden Weir (Kirkham) — required detailed structural inspections to assess aging components under environmental stress, corrosion, and flood exposure. Both assets support local irrigation infrastructure, and their condition needed to be evaluated to inform future maintenance and rehabilitation planning.

Solution

Konceptual (formerly Midas) delivered comprehensive, field-based condition assessments for both weirs. Our inspections covered all major structural elements — including upstream/downstream steel sheet piles, capping beams, concrete aprons, timber piles, reno mattresses, gabions, fish passage systems, and associated steelwork. Each component was visually inspected, photographically documented, and assigned a condition rating with defect classifications and technical commentary.

Key Highlights

  • Inspections across two key Nepean River sites — Sharpes & Camden Weirs
  • Identified sheet pile corrosion, punctures, and lateral deflection
  • Steel capping beam failures due to inadequate stiffness and adverse loading
  • Reno mattress degradation led to erosion and gabion instability
