Nick's Story How One Call from a Chemo Chair Built Konceptual
Nick's Story
Nick kicked off his career at one of Australia’s largest ASX‑listed building‑products manufacturers, quickly earning a reputation for pairing deep technical know‑how with a knack for straight‑talking communication. Everything pointed to a long corporate climb—until a sudden cancer diagnosis sent life sideways.
On a day of chemotherapy, Nick didn’t sit still. Drip in arm, he picked up the phone, rang his first prospective client, and sketched the outline of what would become Konceptual. Working full‑time on site was out of the question, but solving problems for mates in the field? That was still on the table.
Enter longtime friend and fellow engineer Rizwan Quadeer. While others saw setbacks, Riz saw an opening:
“You’ve always spotted the gaps other engineers miss. Let’s build something that bridges them.”
What began as a practical workaround for hospital appointments grew into a shared vision. Nick’s hard‑earned site experience and talent for translating engineer‑speak into plain English met Rizwan’s deep technical prowess, and Konceptual was born.
Since those early calls from the chemo ward, one truth has rung loud: when one door closes, ten swing open. The company has gone from a two‑man idea to a tight‑knit team tackling gravity walls, soil‑reinforced systems, and complex block masonry—always with a focus on preventing problems, not just cleaning them up.
Nick still loves the people he worked with in his pre‑Konceptual days, but he’ll tell you this path is the best thing that could’ve happened. Every challenge is a chance to grow, and every project is another way to give back to the country that made the journey possible.
The story isn’t finished—far from it. With a growing team, fresh tech, and a hunger to raise the bar for smart, buildable engineering, Konceptual is just getting started. Resilience, purpose, and partnership built the foundation; the next chapters will be written on continuous improvement and real‑world results.
